This influencing skills course gives you the key tools of influencing and persuading and will help you to develop your own particular individual influencing style.

If others willingly “come along with you” then it will be far easier to have an impact and achieve your objectives.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Win the trust and respect of others.
  • Navigate company politics and build alliances.
  • Motivate and generate enthusiasm in others – understand what makes them tick.
  • Be assertive and confidently ask others for help and co-operation.
  • Develop a more convincing and impactful personal style and work more effectively in meetings.




There are no requirements for this influencing skills training course.

It is aimed at anyone who wants to learn how to be more persuasive. This is usually at work, but the techniques that you learn will be useful in all aspects of your life.

To get the most out of the training course it is very helpful if you can come to the course with examples of the challenges that you face at work.

We can work then work through and discuss your influencing challenges as a group.

Our influencing courses run from 9.30 am to approximately 4.30 pm.

We include everything that you will need for a great day’s training.

This includes:

  • Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day.
  • Comfortable, fully air-conditioned classrooms
  • An A4 copy of the influencing course materials to take home and notepad and pen.

We do not have a dress code. Please come wearing whatever you find most comfortable.

Influencing Skills Course Details

The first session of the course gives you a strong understanding of the basics, and a framework to build on.

  • What is influencing and what different types of influencing are there?
  • Understanding what motivates and galvanises people into action.
  • Building and maintaining relationships and a network.
  • Navigating company and team politics.

This training session focuses on practical communication skills you can use to become more persuasive, and gives you time to practice them. 

  • Communicating expectations clearly and active listening.
  • Gaining and building trust and respect.
  • Making a valued contribution and building a personal brand.
  • Having confidence in your own ability and knowledge.
  • Listening skills.

The final session of this training course is when you will prepare your personal action plan.

In conjunction with the trainer, you will work through exactly what you will differently on your return to work.

This means that you will have a personalised step-by-step influencing action plan to consult in the future if you are struggling.

She started her career in marketing management with Proctor & Gamble and Rank Hovis McDougall before moving into training and 1:1 coaching.

Jo has been a professional development coach and trainer for over 20 years and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD).

She started her career as an engineer before moving to a global pharmaceutical company, where she spent 18 years. While she was there she progressed through a variety of leadership and technical roles across HR, customer service and training.

This is what we work through with you during the Personal Action Plan section of the day. This is time on the course set aside to reflect on and discuss how the principles that you have learned during the day can be implemented in your exact situation. This is how we make sure that everyone leaves us with a clear personalised plan of action.


We limit the number of people in our workshops to 5.

Influencing skills allow you to persuade people towards your way of thinking on a specific topic.

Being able to persuade and make the case for an idea of yours is a key aspect of everyone’s development. Being able to influence others will allow you to sell your ideas and build teams.

This influencing skills course will give you the key influencing skills and frameworks to allow you to develop this skill.

Influencing skills can not be measured objectively, although a number of researchers have tried.

However, if you often find that you struggle to get people to ‘come along with you’ of their own free will then you may want to look at your influencing style and skills and consider an influencing skills training course.


There are lots of good strategies you can use to influence others.

Three areas that are fundamental to good influencing and so you need to work on are:

  1. Confidence. It is impossible for others to have confidence in you if you don’t have confidence in yourself. If you struggle with confidence you will need to look at this if you are to become a strong influencer.
  2. Trust. If you are not trusted by colleagues you will find it difficult to influence others. Ensuring that you are widely seen as trustworthy and fair will help you to influence others.
  3. Listening. Others are far more likely to follow you ideas if they feel that their ideas and input have been heard. Becoming a good active listener is an effective way to influence others.
